Nineteen hours ago,
four friends and I were sitting around a kitchen table
thinking of something fun we could do.
Four of us had seen
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" last night
and were in a particular mood
to enjoy our one chance at youth.
One of us,
I can't remember which one,
jokingly said:
"We should go to Chicago."
An hour after that,
we were all at Wal-Mart
buying 5 hour energy shots.
And less than an hour after that
we were all packed in a car driving to Chicago.
For no reason at all.
We sang and danced on the way there
laughed until we cried
and chewed a lot of gum
We didn't get to the city until about 2am
And it was empty
It felt like it was there especially for us
Barely a soul walking on the street
save for an occasional bum
or a couple stumbling home from the club
We drove past the Sears tower
The HancockBuilding
Millenium Park
The Water Tower
and everywhere else
We went to a Dunkin Donuts
at 3am
I got chocolate one.
With sprinkles.
Of course.
We left shortly after 4am
We sang "99 bottles"on the way home
but stopped at 69 bottles
When we finally got backat about 6 am
everyone was extremely tired
and went home
I was still so wired
I went to the beach
to watch the sunrise
I actually watched
the sun rise
to the point where it burned
my eyes
I know your mom says that's not a good idea.
But a lot of things aren't.
